Kimberly-Clark Softex Installs Solar Panels at its Karawang Manufacturing Facility with TotalEnergies ENEOS

Kimberly-Clark Softex’s (PT Softex Indonesia) 5000 PV modules installed in the Karawang manufacturing facility will contribute to the government’s Million Solar Panel Roofs National Movement to produce clean energy

Jakarta, 31 May 2023 – Kimberly-Clark Softex today announced the installation of nearly 5000 photovoltaic (PV) modules on the roof of its flagship manufacturing facility in Karawang, West Java. This rooftop solar panel installation will reduce the indirect carbon emissions of the facility by around 3,000 tons per year or the equivalent of taking 600 fossil fuel driven cars off the roads[1]. This initiative will also support the government’s Million Solar Panel Roofs National Movement, which aims to generate 3.6 gigawatts (GW) of solar energy by 2025.

“At Kimberly-Clark, we are committed to decarbonizing our supply chain and halving our carbon emissions by 2030. This 2.65 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar installation will generate approximately 3,700 megawatt-hours (MWh) of clean energy for our factory annually, and help us deliver on our global climate goals. It will also help to increase the contribution of new and renewable energy mix in Indonesia," said Kadir Gunduz, President Director of Kimberly-Clark Softex.

Kimberly-Clark Softex said that it is carrying out the installation of the solar panels in collaboration with TotalEnergies ENEOS. The installation in Karawang Manufacturing Facility started in May 2023 and will begin operating by December 2023.

“We are delighted to partner with Kimberly-Clark Softex in expanding the use of renewable energy for its operations. We really appreciate the establishment of this partnership that aims to make a good contribution to the development of new and renewable energy in Indonesia. As a leading solar service provider for commercial and industrial businesses, TotalEnergies ENEOS has the expertise to provide concrete and competitive solutions to our B2B customers to help them reach their sustainability goals and reduce their energy costs. We are dedicated to being a long-term energy partner for Kimberly-Clark and look forward to our continuous collaboration to power its manufacturing facilities across multiple markets in Asia,” said Elodie Renaud, Director of TotalEnergies ENEOS Renewables Distributed Generation Asia.

TotalEnergies ENEOS is also expanding cooperation with Kimberly-Clark beyond Indonesia by signing long-term agreements to install additional of approximately 5 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to its other manufacturing facilities in Southeast Asia.
